Michaud Statement on VA’s Office of Inspector General Report

Washington D.C.  – U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud (D-ME), Ranking Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, released the following statement this afternoon in response to the release of the VA OIG report looking into allegations of wrongdoing in Phoenix:

“This report details extremely disturbing findings about what was going on in Phoenix. It confirms our worst suspicions about the systemic failures plaguing the VA system. While our oversight hearings over the last few months have uncovered a host of problems, many of them wide-spread, it is still painful to read the accounts of veterans who were failed by the VA system – the very system that should be there to support them.

“The report serves as a reminder that we must remain steadfast over the coming weeks, months, and years in our effort to reform the VA. We owe a better VA to the veterans who were let down by the system, to the men and women who stood up and spoke out when they saw wrongdoing, and to the hundreds of thousands of veterans who have earned access to high-quality care, benefits, and services.”
